In Vino Veritas rewards

You can help Henry become many things in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, from a rugged warrior to a learned scholar. At one point, he has to become, or at least pretend to be, a wine expert. The In Vino Veritas quest in Kuttenberg tasks you with helping a citizen become a proper wine seller. Sounds simple? Well, there are complications, including trying wines, learning vintages, and even breaking into a vineyard. To help you become a true medieval sommelier, we’ll take you through the In Vino Veritas quest step by step.

How to start the In Vino Veritas quest

To begin the In Vino Veritas quest, head to Kuttenburg, the largest settlement on the map and the staging ground for the game’s second portion. Once you’re in the city, make your way to the fountain, near which you’ll find Casper Rudolf trying to sell his wine. Casper will offer you a taste, and you’ll quickly realize his wine isn’t the best. He’s struggling to compete with the local vineyard, which is run by monks, as was tradition at the time. Casper believes they have a secret ingredient he needs to know about.

Casper needs your help to uncover this ingredient. He’ll point you to a contact in Kuttenburg – an innkeeper – who might have the information. Casper asks you to pose as a wine expert to gather intel and potentially save his failing business. But since Henry knows next to nothing about wine, he’ll need to learn a few things before meeting the innkeeper.

1. Get the book to learn about wine

While you don’t have to do this step, getting a book borrowed by one of Casper’s former lovers will make the meeting with the wine expert a lot easier. Adleta can be found in the gardens of Kuttenburg, but access is blocked by Hugo, who is standing guard. Thankfully, you can use your blacksmithing skills to your advantage. Convince Hugo that a famous blacksmith is in town by passing a skill check. He’ll then leave, allowing you to talk to Adleta.

Adleta will be hesitant to give you the book at first, as she thought it was a gift. However, if you explain your plan to trick the wine expert, she’ll hand over the book and wish you luck. The book, “Sir Bushek’s vintner wisdom”, won’t suddenly make Henry a wine connoisseur, but it contains useful information if you take the time to study it. It’s a quick read, so take the time to read it before heading to your meeting.

2. Meet with Innkeeper Havel, the wine expert

Once you’ve read the book, it’s time for the meeting with Innkeeper Havel. But before you go, make sure you’re dressed appropriately – you can’t look like a vagabond or a bloody bandit while trying to pose as a wine expert. The innkeeper will only talk to those who look the part, so be sure to wear something nice. This is a great time to bust out those wedding clothes you used before. Alternatively, or if you don’t have something suitable, head to the local tailor in Kuttenburg to get some nice clothing.

After you’ve changed, find Innkeeper Havel at the Emperor Charles Tavern. Sit down with him to taste some wine and prove your mettle, which is essentially a quiz filled with skill checks. You can succeed by passing the Drinking skill checks or even by bluffing your way through with some well-chosen answers.

You will be asked to pick one of three European regions. Then you’ll get questions about wines in the one you chose. If you’ve studied the book sufficiently, you should have the answers. If not, here are the answers for each region in order:

RegionAnswers
Germany1. Steinberger
2. It’s missing Ginger
Italy1. Tuscany
2. It’s missing Ginger
France1. Avignon
2. It’s missing Ginger

These options, along with at least one successful skill check, will get you through the tasting. If you succeed, Havel will share valuable secret information about the wine-making process at the vineyard, which you should then go and report back to Casper.

If you somehow fail, you can either reload your save and try again or head upstairs in the inn. There, you’ll find a dark chest containing the Inn’s Ledger, which holds the information about the secret ingredient that you need.

3. Find a way into the vineyard

As it turns out, the monks’ secret ingredient is Sulphur. So, after reporting back to Casper, he’ll ask you to head to the vineyard and steal some Sulphur for him. In addition, he offers you a bonus if you can procure six saplings for him. You have two options: break into the vineyard or try to get hired by the vineyard during the day.

Getting employed is the easier route, as it allows you to access the vineyard without raising suspicion. Approach Administrator Jerome, who runs the vineyard, and play along for a while. He’ll also give you the Under a Straw Hat quest while working there. Then, head to the building to his right, where you’ll find the items you need.

Enter the building and head to the left, where you’ll find a medium-locked door. If you don’t have the necessary lockpicking skill to unlock it, you’ll need to pickpocket a key. Inside the room, you’ll find a chest with the Sulphur Wicks that you need. Grab them and quickly leave before anyone notices you.

✓ Don’t miss out on a quest

Note that the Under a Straw Hat quest you got from Administrator Jerome will end when you return to Casper, so make sure to complete it before speaking to him again. It’s easy to do and you’ll be able to collect your wage upon completion.

Before leaving the vineyard, take a moment to head to the back of the building, where you’ll find saplings growing. You have an optional task where Casper will pay well for six of these, and they’re planted close together, making it easy to collect them quickly when no one is around. Once you’ve gathered the saplings, return to Casper to complete the quest.

In Vino Veritas rewards

The rewards for completing In Vino Veritas are quite generous compared to many other quests. You’ll receive 425 Groschen and positive reputation for delivering the Sulphur Wicks to Casper. If you also bring him the six saplings, he’ll reward you with an additional 425 Groschen, for a total of 850 Groschen. With that, you’ll have successfully completed the quest!
