📃Scientific paper: The current evidence on surgical management for synchronous bilateral renal tumors: results from a scoping reviewAbstract:Purpose Synchronous bilateral renal masses (SBRM) account for a low percentage of kidney tumors, and there is no current recommendation for their management. The objective was to review evidence regarding the best surgical approach for SBRM in terms of type and timing of surgery. Methods A broad literature search was performed on 28th January 2023 using Scopus, PubMed, and EMBASE.Only English papers dealing with adults were included.Meeting abstracts were excluded. Results Twenty-four papers were accepted and included.SBRM behave less aggressively than metachronous tumors, and partial nephrectomy (PN) is the preferred therapeutic option to preserve renal function.Open, laparoscopic, and robot-assisted approaches were found to be similar in oncological outcomes, though robot-assisted surgery resulted in lower comorbidities.Same-sitting PN was demonstrated to be a safe approach, particularly in the robotic-assisted one. Finally, the same-siting and staged NSS were similar in preserving renal function. Conclusions PN should be the desirable treatment for SBRM whenever feasible and if patients are fit, but surgeon expertise should also be taken into the account.Continued on ES/IODE ➡️ https://etcse.fr/v1jW-------If you find this interesting, feel free to follow, comment and share. We need your help to enhance our visibility, so that our platform continues to serve you.

Da Vinci in Gynecologic oncology 🦾The state-of-the-art laparoscopic system Da Vinci is used by physicians at Bory Hospital also for gynecologic oncology surgeries such as tumors of the endometrium, ovaries, or cervix. The robot is thus ready to operate on patients with various forms of gynecological tumors.Da Vinci is not only significantly more precise and efficient, but it also reduces the duration of the surgery and hospitalization. Clinical results have also shown that such surgeries reduce the risk of permanent consequences or other complications and ensure a quicker return of the patient to active life.Da Vinci is particularly important for patients with a BMI of 40-50, for whom conventional laparoscopic surgery was either impossible or complicated. Thanks to robotic surgery, all patients now receive top-notch healthcare.Learn more about the use of robot in gynecologic oncology in our Penta Podcast, featuring guest Mikuláš Redecha - the clinical leader of the gynecology and obstetrics department at Bory Hospital ➡️ https://lnkd.in/evW4aPFe#pentainvestments #nemocnicabory #healthcare #zlepsujemezdravotnictvo

Laparoscopic versus Open Emergency Surgery for Right Colon Cancers #published in #Diagnostics (IF 3.6)!🔥 Lap right colectomy for emergency right colon cancers is under investigation🤺Perioperative and oncological long-term outcomes of emergency right colon cancer resection (lap vs open)- 202 right colectomies (114 open 88 lap)- Lap significantly longer (156 vs 203, p<0.001)- Lap higher lymph node yield- Lap better R0 (78.9 vs 87.5%, p=0.049) - Lap shorter postop stay (12.5 vs 8.0 d, p<0.001)- Recurrences were similar (34.2 vs 36.4%)- Open had lower 5-year OS (27.1 vs 51.7%, p=0.001)- 5-year DFS was similar (55.8 vs 56.5%)📌Lap approach to right colon cancers in an emergency setting is safe in terms of perioperative and long-term oncological outcomes and provides good oncological outcomesLink to free download: https://lnkd.in/ek3zpdi8Jim Khan Rauand Duhoky Mohammad Iqbal Hussain Najmu Sakib Filippo Carannante Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust University of Portsmouth MDPI Publication n63

ICG-Fluorescence Imaging for Margin Assessment During Minimally Invasive Colorectal Liver Metastasis Resection https://lnkd.in/gPBWn4nD Title: Enhancing Liver Metastasis Surgery with ICG-Fluorescence ImagingThe ChallengeColorectal cancer often spreads to the liver, and surgery is the best treatment. However, it's difficult to remove the tumor without harming healthy tissue. The Solution: ICG-Fluorescence ImagingICG-Fluorescence Imaging uses a safe dye that, when injected into the bloodstream, can be seen using near-infrared light. This allows surgeons to see blood flow and tissue during surgeries, helping them navigate more effectively.Clinical Trial ResultsA study in the Journal of Surgical Oncology found that ICG-Fluorescence Imaging accurately identified positive margins in 96% of cases, helping surgeons remove cancer while preserving healthy tissue.Advantages of ICG-Fluorescence Imaging- Real-time visualization provides immediate feedback to surgeons during surgery.- High accuracy rate of 96% in identifying positive margins.- Can be performed using minimally invasive techniques.- A cost-effective option compared to other imaging techniques.Limitations and Future DirectionsFurther research is needed due to the small sample size, and it may not be suitable for all patients. However, it has great potential and requires further exploration.ConclusionICG-Fluorescence Imaging is a valuable tool in improving surgical outcomes and reducing the risk of positive margins. While more research is needed, the results of this study are a step forward in incorporating this technique into routine practice. #ClinicalTrials #AIinHealthcare #MedicalAI #HealthTech #DigitalHealth #PatientCareAI #AIResearch #MedicalInnovation #BioTech #AIforGood #HealthcareData #AIinMedicine #PharmaAI #ClinicalData #HealthAI #AIHealthSolutions #PrecisionMedicine #AIandHealth #ClinicalAnalytics #AIDiagnostics

Andrzej Piatkowski de Grzymala, MD PhD appointed as Professor of Innovative Reconstructive SurgeryNUTRIM has a new professor since 1 January 2024. Congratulations AndrzejThis is a professorship in the title of top reference/top clinical care, embedded within the NUTRIM Department of Plastic Surgery. The research is affiliated with the research institute NUTRIM and focuses in particular on adipose tissue, both in clinical application as well as in respect of metabolic and immunological properties. In recent years, the number of patients who develop and survive breast cancer has steadily increased. This also increases the demand for breast reconstructive surgery. Breast reconstruction, for example, can also be done by fat cell transplantation, the so-called AFT procedure. Andrzej Piatkowski has investigated this in several multicentre trials in recent years and eventually brought this method to the clinic, making the Netherlands the first country in the world where this treatment is reimbursed from the basic health insurance package. Lipofilling, a modern and recognised technique within reconstructive surgery, offers patients a less invasive breast reconstruction option after overcoming breast cancer, available to breast cancer patients worldwide. To further support these developments and ambitions, the chair of innovative reconstructive surgery was established. #breastreconstruction #AFTprocedure #NUTRIM #Plasticsurgery #MUMC+ #Lipofilling

Mapping Global Surgery: NEW project from NIHR Global Health Research Unit on Global Surgery. How to join?Check if there is a hospital lead and follow the steps: https://lnkd.in/dr5XiKZh. Where to find info?https://lnkd.in/dBMHbtGkHow will it happen? We'll ask you to collect number of operations over 14 days only. Why to join?First study aiming to estimate the surgical case-mix globally as primary aim.Why is case mix relevant? It will inform if the surgery that is being delivered match the current population needs across countries. This is relevant to plan & prioritise future training.Practical example:If breast surgery is not delivered to match breast cancer prevalence in a given country, because most surgery delivered is head and neck procedures, future programmes need to expand breast surgery training to treat this group of patients and improve population health.
